Five Things I Learned From Riding My Peloton Everyday For 30+ Days

in Lifestyle on 01/26/22

Over Christmas break I made an impromptu goal to ride the Peloton every.single.day.

It was actually kind of accidental, I happened to be on a couple day streak and wondered to myself  “hey, self, wouldn’t it be nice if you did this every day over the break?” So I decided that it would be a fun goal and that yes, I would try to ride once every day while the boys were home from Christmas break which would be about two weeks.

Well, Christmas break came and went. And I was still riding!

Then my next goal of 20 days came and went. And I was still riding!

Then I said, why not shoot for 30 days. And you guessed it… I was still riding!

As of today I am on day 37 of riding our Peloton every.single.day. For 37 days straight.  Now, don’t get me wrong- not all days are super intense. There have been a few days that I do an exercise class with a friend or have tennis lessons and I just go on and give it my all for 10 minutes. There are some days that I just flat out don’t feel like doing it (or picked up the germs from the boys and didn’t feel great) and phone it in for a lame 15 minutes. There are some days I show up and give it my absolute ALL for 30 minutes.

The important part is that I SHOW UP EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

And today I am going to share a few things I have learned from this tiny little goal that I have achieved and what this milestone has done for me mentally. And while I realize that not everyone has a Peloton, I believe that setting any exercise related goals would be the same for you!

Just another nugget of inspiration for you as we work through our “22 Ways to Inspire Your 2022”!

Five Things I Learned From Riding My Peloton Everyday For 30+ Days

  1. They say creating a new habit takes twenty-one days.
Well, I would agree! This has become part of my daily agenda and I go to bed the night before thinking about how I will fit my ride into my next day. After all, if I can hop on and ride on Christmas Eve and Christmas, there is really no excuse for any other day of the year! I have  24 hours in a day, and have at least 15-30 minutes to accomplish some exercise.
  2. They say if you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.
By riding the bike every day, I have built up to a whole big “thing” which has truly given me a sense of pride. Doing laundry and unloading the dishwasher and driving carpool can feel pretty monotonous. In fact, it can feel like I am downright spinning every day doing the same tasks over and over and over and truly never actually getting anywhere because these tasks never end. This tiny little milestone has given me something to be proud of. And it helps that it has already happened in January so I already have something to show for the year! It has also helped to build other health and wellness goals this month.
  3. They say that people who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional wellbeing.
I feel GREAT! Exercise is truly the best release and I always feel great when I am done. Of course it helps that Peloton has great music to get my mood up. How can you not feel good after getting sweaty and listening to some fun tunes? The Peloton community is truly one that is encouraging and welcoming and I love the instructors!
  4. They say practice makes perfect.
A new gym or new exercise equipment or going to a new exercise class can be super intimating! Honestly when my husband ordered this bike and it was delivered I was like hmmmmmm- what in the world am I supposed to do with this thing? In the 14 months that we had it, I had only done about 70 rides. However, in the past 37 days I have now tackled my first LIVE ride, have beat my own personal records and done rides with friends. I have tried lots of new instructors and better understand what type of classes I like. I even joined the Century club and hit 100 rides. I am far from a pro, but I definitely feel more confident now.
  5. They say to find an exercise you love.
Do I love to exercise? NOPE. But I am truly really enjoying my time riding and it’s always nice when I can find something that keeps me motivated and accountable.

Will I continue riding everyday? No. It’s been a rare period where we haven’t traveled and we have several trips coming up so I know my streak will eventually end. But I am just thankful for this little 2022 accomplishment that has helped to create some new habits and encourage better health decisions. And I hope after reading this you feel inspired to set a new exercise goal for yourself!
