Hi loves! Happy Tuesday! I am already counting down the minutes until the long weekend… who’s with me?!?!
Today I am sharing a quick update on some of the changes I recently made in the living room. This room is always changing and I love tweaking it here and there depending on my mood and the season. The furniture and walls are fairly neutral so I have fun changing accessories out whenever the fancy strikes.
This time, I didn’t really set out to make any updates, but once I got going, I just couldn’t stop.
It all started when I was working from home last Thursday. I was running errands near the house and my car drove and just turned right into the Ikea parking lot. I don’t know how this happened, I promise! 🙂 But I found these great black and white pillow covers. The voices in my head told me to buy them- I had a pair of pillows at home that I knew would fit perfectly in them. What’s a few more pillows, heh?
(hmmm… most of my decor kicks start with pillows. #pillowhoarder)…
Which led to picking up a can of Meadow Green Rustoleum spray paint to add some fun green accents to the room…because black and white are lonely without green, right?
When we did our recent renovations and removed the sunroom wall, my DIY Atlanta Subway art got displaced. At first I thought it was destined to a life in the attic but it’s black and white charm landed it in this room…
And the art that was there landed on the fireplace mantel.
With the recent foyer renovations (I still need to blog about that one!), this Ballard Design outlet mirror was also looking for a new home so it landed front and center on the mantle.
Once the subway art was in place, the old yellow tassels on the lamp felt boring, so I went in search for something bolder. After digging around in my craft dresser I found some grosgrain ribbon to line the bottom of the lamp shade and a pair of black tassels…BAM!
The coral artwork was in our master bathroom before the renovation (I still need to blog about that one- yes we are still recovering from our renos!) and I stuck it up on the large-and-in-charge window frame to bring summer alive.
I just have a thing for coral that I can’t shake.
Next up, I filled the lanterns with leftover oysters from my oyster hysteria last summer. These recently almost landed in the trash since they had been sitting around for a year, but alas, I found yet another way to use oyster shells! Apparently I also have a thing for shells.
Well, then the oysters led to a nautical feel on the mantel so I rounded up some starfish and summer accessories that I had on hand.
And that my friends is how we ended up with a new feel in an old room!
Total cost? Under $25!!
- Meadow Green Spray Paint- $4
- Pair of Ikea Pillows- ($10 each) – $20
OK- bring on summer!

I just love your living room! All the layers of texture and patterns ~ I would never think to combine everything, but it just works! The pillow covers from Ikea are great!
Thanks Elizabeth. Yes, lot's going on, but the best part is that when I tire of it (which I know I will), I can just change things up again! 🙂
I am just amazed by how lovely this space turned out! With the gorgeous mantel and the way the colors just work. Well done; just amazing!
Thank you SO much for your sweet comment!
You space looks absolutely gorgeous, Heather!!! See, pillow hoarding pays off 😉
Hi, my name is Heather, and I am a pillow hoarder. 🙂 Thanks for understanding, it's nice to know I am not the only one!! Thanks Emily!
I still adore your room. I think I have a crush on it… is that ok?!? I dream about one day having neutral furniture (we're stuck with the dark green three piece matching set.. ugh…until money and dogs are different in our lives)… everything else has been neutralized. I love the blues still but the black and white are what I just absolutely love. I try to picture this all in my living room and although mine is smaller, I think I can make it work… when I have the time, patience and no more 100 lb dog who thinks the couch is his. I love him but he likes to knock off my pillows and get hair everywhere.
I cannot get over the sheer beauty of this room! Truly, it's like something out of a magazine. And now, I'm inspired to go on a pillow run now!
Aw, thanks Lauren! I know you have an Ikea close to you! You better watch out, somehow you might find your car just driving you there too! 🙂
i love this look, i totally agree with the black and white needing green. it all looks great!
Thanks so much! Yes, some things just go together don't they? I love black, white and green together!
Heather! It looks so awesome! I love seeing people like you who have such an "eye" for decor– like, of course the green looks stunning with the black and white, but I never would have thought of that! You have a gift, my friend! Thanks so much for sharing!
~Abby =)
You are so sweet Abby! Thanks so much! 🙂
Found you via the blog party on The Blissful Bee. I too am a pillow hoarder! And my rearranging almost always starts with a new pillow I have to have! I may need a 12 step program! Lovely job on your room! Would love for you to visit my blog when you have a moment. http://www.saltyblonde.com
Ha- yes, we need a 12 step program. The first step is admitting, so I guess we are already well on our way! 🙂 Stopping by your blog now!

Found you at Remodelaholic!
Kim @ pinspiredhome.blogspot.com
Thanks Kim! We purchased them from Storehouse back in 2006. Sadly, they are no longer in business. But Target has similar slipchairs… not this color but the same look. Good luck!
Love the pillows Heather – and the whole room! New pillows always send me on a major tweaking course too!
Thanks Krista! Glad to know I am not the only one that can have a pillow start a domino effect! 🙂
Your living room is beautiful! I love your style.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!
Gorgeous room! I love everything about it. And yes, I too hoard pillows (do not even attempt to open my office closet). Love all the coastal touches as well.
Pillow hoarders UNITE! Glad to know I am not the only one shoving pillows away…it's the attic for me!
I love all your pretty touches around this room! The curtains and the fun pillows give it such an eclectic, welcoming vibe, I can totally imagine hanging out in there! And that mirror – oooooh that mirror. It is gorgeous! Thanks for linking your space up to Best of the Nest Heather!
Thanks you so much for hosting! I love your Best of the Nest- it really does have so much inspiration!

Glad to know my car isn't the only one that autopilots to Ikea! Thanks for stopping in Pam!
I love this room and all the details! I love how you change small things for different seasons and it gave it a fresh look every time!
Thanks so much Summer!
Probably my favorite pillows ever! Your room looks great!
Those pillows are so fab, and so inexpensive! By the way, I blame this whole green spray paint on YOU!!!! 🙂 Thanks for hosting BOTN!
How did you make the ATL subway art? I from Atlanta and I love it!
