Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

{Christmas Traditions} Family Album Christmas Tree

in holidays on 11/05/15

Whoa! And just like that,  we are already a week into November.  This past week has been a whirlwind of fun. After our Halloween adventures the Big Sweet and I promptly boarded a plane to California for a couple of fun nights in Newport Beach. He had a work retreat and I was thrilled when they said spouses were invited to come along. It’s always so great to get away for a couple of days. We ate, relaxed, ate, adventured and ate some more.As much as I love to travel, it is always nice coming home… especially to see the Little Sweets. I am happy to have a few minutes this morning to catch my breath and check in with y’all. I am even more excited to have Lauren from Bless’er House guest hosting today to officially kick off the Southern Christmas Cheer series.

Without further ado, here she is!

Hey y’all! (I feel right at home being able to say that on a blog called Southern State of Mind, ya know?)

My name is Lauren, and I have a little home decor and DIY blog called Bless’er House. I was so completely tickled when Heather asked me if I would pay her a visit to share a Christmas tradition for her Southern Christmas Cheer Series.

My husband, three year-old daughter, and I just moved into our new house exactly 2 years ago this Christmas, so it’s an extra special celebration for us. I surf all over Pinterest and pin so many beautiful, intricate crafts to do during the holiday season, but ya know…ain’t nobody got time for that. Not in our house at least.

So a couple of years ago I started the easiest Christmas “craft” tradition ever. (And I’m putting craft in quotes there because really it’s just printing pictures from the computer. Ha!)

Every December, I love recapping the year by printing pictures in black and white on cardstock paper and hanging them on our tree by using just a hole punch and twine. Ta da! That’s all it takes for us to have a family album Christmas tree.

It’s cheap and simple, and it’s so fun for our family to look around at them and remember all of the special moments we’ve had over the years.

I can’t wait to start looking through our pictures from this year and printing a few favorites to display. This is our living room from last year’s holiday home tour, and I’m already itching to pull out the decorations…if only my husband would let me before Thanksgiving. No luck there though.

Was that the easiest holiday craft in the history of ever? Easy is always my favorite…so we have more time to stuff our faces with Christmas cookies instead.
Thank you so much, Heather, for having me! If you have any special Christmas traditions yourself, I’d love to hear about them in the comments below! Maybe we’ll find more to try.
Blessings,
Lauren

I absolutely love this idea, thanks so much for sharing Lauren! I am already thinking about which pictures I could use this year to start this tradition of my own. As far as the decor before Thanksgiving…maybe he won’t mind just a tub or two from storage?!?!? 🙂 I mean, that picture above is just way too pretty to enjoy for only one month!

Thank you SO MUCH for having me, Heather! I'm dying to bust out the Christmas decor…you're right, maybe the hubs won't notice just 1 tub of decorations? And if he does notice, I'll just say, "Well, how'd that get there?" 😉 I'm so jealous you got to go to Cali! Glad you got a nice mommy vacation. By the way, every time I see "off duty" I think of your hilarious Haven shirt. Haha!

I love this idea!! I may try to do this on my little tree in my den this year. Thanks for sharing. We don't have alot of money so it is always kinda a bummer when we head into a holiday season but your post has encouraged me to try and focus on what is really important instead of the monetary things. Feeling encouraged now about being Christmas'e!! 😉
