Happy Friday friends! Wow October is flying. Grab your coffee (reheat it if it’s been a crazy morning and you haven’t been able to sit down yet!) and let’s chat- it’s time for our Front Porch Coffee Talk .
I’M A GEORGIA VOTER!
It feels so great to check this off the to-do list and I am always reminded what a privilege and honor it is. I am thankful for all of the poll workers- they were all so nice and it was a fast and enjoyable (and it felt very safe!) experience. If you haven’t voted yet- GO DO IT! (If you are local, I went to the Northside Library and was in and out in 15 minutes.)
GONE BATTY IN THE KITCHEN
The bulk of our Halloween decor stays outside on the front and back porch but I did have a little fun haunting our kitchen. I found the larger white pumpkins at Aldi’s for around $3.50 each and the smaller ones are from Trader Joe’s. I’ve had these paper bats for years, but I did see this cute set on Amazon for a good price. They are such a versatile thing to have for Halloween and my favorite thing is that they take up zero storage space!
WHAT I’M READING
Do you start to get stressed about what you are going to read next when you are about to finish your current book? No? Just me?! Well, I was having a super hard time deciding what I was going to read after The Silent Patient (you can read about that one here) and landed on Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. I loved Nightingale, The Great Alone and Firefly Lane so I have high hopes for this one. Have you read it?
HAUNTED GINGERBREAD HOUSES
We had some rainy days last weekend and these Haunted Gingerbread Houses from Trader Joe’s were the perfect thing to pull out for an evening activity. I learned long ago to get them each their own and they really had a great time with these. Suggestion- assemble the houses beforehand to allow them to get firm before your kids are hovering over you waiting for their houses and eating all of the candy.
NEW ESPADRILLES
One of the thing I struggle the most with is shoes. I want to be comfy but not always wear sneakers or running shoes. I got these two-toned espadrilles and have been wearing them with lots of different looks. I think they will be good for the transitional seasons of winter to spring and summer to fall.

CARPOOL CHRONICLES
While I am so very grateful that the boys are in face to face school right now- it has also been a weird and challenging year. It’s a new school for both and add masks and social distancing into the equation and school just isn’t the same no matter what version of it you are experiencing! So we have been playing the song “Sunday Best” in the carpool line in the mornings. If you haven’t heard it- ask Alexa to play it. The lyrics are positive and it’s one of the only songs all three of us can agree on lately!
ELF ON THE SHELF PANDEMIC STYLE
This made me giggle- it’s for making the Elf on the Shelf “quarantine” for 14 days when arrived. And I am not ashamed of saying that it looks tempting! It would be nice to be “off the hook” for two weeks in December!

I recently finished “Night Road” by Kristin Hannah. You need to read this one.
Love the quarantine jar for Elf on the Shelf!

Great October post. I read winter garden and it was alright, not near as captivating as nightingale. I love all your Halloween decorations! I may have to get out the black construction paper and make myself some bats!!!

I love all your Halloween decor. The spooky houses are so something I’m going to do with my niece. I bet the kids had so much fun with that. GA Voter here too, I’m heading to vote this Thursday! Also your shoes are super cute. Sometimes finding a balance between stylish and comfortable can be hard.

Yes I really struggle with the balance between comfort and cute! Hope you were able to do the haunted house gingerbread houses! Happy Halloween!
