Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

{On the Road Again} Ponce Inlet Florida Trip Recap

in Lifestyle, The South, travel on 08/31/15

Hi friends! Thanks to everyone who filled out the Reader Survey. Your feedback has been super helpful to me and I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to let me know your thoughts. If you haven’t yet- please do! It will only take a minute and it’s so good to hear from you!

Whew it feels so good to be back here talking with you. I took an unexpected blog hiatus because mom, wife, daughter-in-law duties are always my first priority.  Honestly, I don’t really want to get into the details right now but everyone is ok and let’s just say I’m ready to get back to our routine. Oh how I’ve missed this little corner of the blogosphere. Missed creating and crafting and zhushing and tweaking. And then blabbing all about it to you! 🙂

So.

Let’s just pick up where we left off, shall we?

As you know the boys and I were very fortunate to spend some time with my family down at the beach…22 days to be exact! It was a wonderful experience so I thought I would share some of the highlights from our trip.

Mom is a dedicated morning beach walker and I managed to heave myself out of bed most mornings at the crack of dawn so we were able to enjoy many-a-sunrises. This is a shot of Sweet B and I taking it all in! While him and I have been up many early mornings together- this was his first official sunrise.

Our God is an Awesome God!

Sweet P never met a wave he didn’t like. Nothing like playing at the beach in your jammies.
We decided to do a day trip to Silver Glen Springs. This is about an hour away and in the middle of nowhere. But, it is worth the drive and was a a great day trip. The springs are freezing but beautiful and have a great “Old Florida” feel.

On the days that we didn’t have anything planned, this is what we did.
Dig. Sleep. Eat. Repeat.

I added something to my bucket list:
Live in a house at the beach with an outdoor shower.
This shot is from the neighbors house. If you want to see the inside, click here.

We were up for many sunrises, but also watched many sunsets. Here is Sweet P and I sitting on the dock of the bay.

Of course, I snagged oyster shells for some crafts.

I also snagged some driftwood and scored this great blue and white tureen.

We visited lots of family and I really wanted to bring my Aunt’s rug home with me.

And while at my Grandmothers we saw a double rainbow. Sweet P went running out and yelled “THIS IS MY FIRST RAINBOW!”
Never a dull moment with this kid.

I pretty much lived in these banana leaf shorts from Old Navy.

Here is Mom and I on an early morning beach walk. I would exercise every morning with that view!

One major highlight was watching a couple turtle nest releases. I will try to do a separate post about this because it was such a neat experience. Here is Sweet P cheering a baby turtle on! So sweet.

Mom stayed home with Sweet B and Dad and I took Sweet P to his first baseball game- the Tortuga Turtles. It was a great family friendly outing. I think the highlight for P was the green snow cone. The highlight for me was watching these two.
A rare moment of peace at the beach. This was between boogie board lessons, digging for pirate treasure and sunscreen applications.
I was so happy when my sissy arrived and spent a long weekend with us. She taught Sweet P how to catch lizards and we did a couple fun kayak outings.

I brought my Go Pro camera and we had some fun testing it out.
Verdict- not very user friendly but still a fun toy. Here is Dad looking at Sissy doing some sweet moves on her kayak. #dontask #yogaboss

My Dad in his happy place.

Phew! We were busy! What a fun way to spend our summer.  I am so happy that both boys LOVE the sand and surf and I look forward to many more fun memories at the beach with my crew!

xoxo,
Heather

That looks like a wonderful trip! And I'm with you, outdoor showers are the best–and they totally count as real showers in the summer, too, even if you're just rinsing off. 🙂
