I am so excited to finally share the project I completed as part of the Frog Tape® Paintover Challenge. What an honor to be selected as one of fifteen to participate in their 2021 Paintover Challenge to showcase the “Rest Easy” trend. Taniya Nayak, HGTV designer and Frog Tape® spokesperson, identified five trends for 2021: Rest Easy, Eat Well, Work Hard, Live Well, and Play Hard. You can find the description for each including the colors they paired each with HERE.
I was thrilled when they assigned me to “Rest Easy” because I immediately knew the space I would tackle! Anyone who has been around here long knows that my front porch is the SPOT where I rest easy with coffee or to chat with neighbors and family. So taking cues from their description of the theme, I collected a bunch of old planters that needed refreshing to give them some new life and create a restful spot on the front porch. To see my project on their website you can click HERE- SOUTHERN HEATHER REST EASY. Be sure to take a look at everyone’s project- I am blown away by the power of Frog Tape and paint- so many creative ideas!
Rest Easy Characteristics:
- Think about that peaceful, calming feeling you get while sipping your morning coffee and watching the rain from your window, listening to it tap against the roof. This trend is all about creating a space that provides peace of mind and offers sanctuary from daily stresses.
- This trend embodies cozy layers, soothing colors, and tranquility to help establish a haven where you can retreat, rest, and ease your mind from uncertainty and anxiety. Perfect for a bedroom, meditation room, coffee nook or quiet corner.
I love this spot to “rest easy”– read on to see how this transformation came to life!
STEP 1
Collect your supplies. If you are like me you probably have a pile of old pots and planters stashed away. For my paintover project, I corralled all of these up and also found a great new option for around $30 to give a makeover. The project only used 3 cans of paint. So this entire project makeover was under $40! Here you can see the collection of what I was working with.
STEP 2
Once you have all of your supplies ready, now comes the fun part! Use Frogtape to tape off the planters and get them ready for spray painting. I had lots of fun coming up with various designs for each of these planters. For some of the planters, I gave them a solid coat of spray paint before adding to the tape as my base color.
**TAPING TIP**
For the large round planter, in order to make the lines clean and even, I ended up taping off the entire planter and then removing every other line of tape.
STEP 3
Once your planters are taped off, now it’s time to spray paint. Here I am adding black to the white planter to create stripes.
Step 4
After your spray paint is fully dry, now it’s time to peel off your frog tape. Is there anything more satisfying than clean crisp lines revealed?
Now sit back and rest easy! It’s time to enjoy your beautiful plants on the porch.
Won’t you grab a cup of coffee and “rest easy” with me? Oh, and all my plants 🙂 (which by the way I am happy to report are still alive!)
Now rest easy my friends-
xoxo,
Heather
