{Pinterest Challenge} Clothespin Starburst Mirror

in Lifestyle on 05/08/13

It’s official.
I now have a mirror in every room of my house.
Some rooms have more than one.
It really is a sickness, y’all.

Last week when the Spring Pinterest Challenge was announced, I knew it was just the motivation I needed to move a project from a “pinned” status to a “pin-there-done-that” status.

With the laundry room makeover on my mind, I have been busy digging up inspiration for ideas to help laundry feel like less of a chore by having a more stylish space. For this challenge, the project that came to mind was a Clothespin Starburst Mirror.

There is something about wooden clothespins that make me happy. Like at any moment I could open my laundry room door to an open field with soft breezes and a clothesline billowing my linens in the fresh air.

As you are very aware, my laundry room is currently the exact opposite of that description. At least this mirror can bring me a little happiness when I do laundry.

Making this Clothespin Starburst Mirror was pretty easy too. Just a few inexpensive things needed:

1. Mirror-
I bought this mirror a couple years ago and it surfed around the house until it eventually landed in the attic. The back still had a price of $5.45 from the thrift store. Score for using something I already had! It is fairly large in size, about 18 inches in diameter.

2.  Wooden clothespins-
I found these at the Dollar Tree and needed 3 packs (had some leftover too)

3.  Gorilla Glue-
Had on hand (could use a glue gun as well)

So for me, this mirror cost me a total of $3, and I got something out of the attic storage! Win- Win!

I started by laying the clothespins out on the mirror to see where I wanted to glue them.
I decided to line up the clip with the edge of the mirror and allow a little space between each clothespin.

Then I applied Gorilla Glue to the back of each clothespin.

To help the glue “cure” to the mirror, I found the closest objects to add a little weight to lay on top of the clothespins.
Do matchbox cars multiply in your house too?

Planes, Trains & Automobiles everywhere. The joys of being little buddy’s mom!
(Husband came by while I was gluing and asked if I was going to glue the cars on too. Ha, I guess nothing would surprise him…)

I let the glue dry overnight just to be sure. Gorilla Glue is some seriously strong stuff!
All done and hanging in the laundry room!
(oh yeah, I made some progress on the laundry room by painting a wall in there too…
more to come on that)
It’s a start on the laundry room!
Any fun DIY starburst mirrors in your house?

Cute idea~ especially for a laundry room. I don't have a lot of matchbox cars in my house (yet) but for some reason an abundance of clothes pins ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha! Maybe I will find a use for those cars on a mirror before it's all said and done. Sounds like you need a clothespin mirror! ๐Ÿ™‚

So so cute! I have been wanting a starburst mirror, but I'm too cheap to buy one! This is the perfect solution! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the "weights" you used too–that is so something that would happen at our house! Thanks for sharing your brilliance with us! Hope you're having a great night!

    Perfect for the laundry room!

Yes about the matchbox cars – my granddaughter loves them. Lines her dolls up to watch the "races." ๐Ÿ™‚
