{Ballard Designs Inspired} DIY Pheasant Feather Art Tutorial

in create, Easy DIY, Lifestyle, Living & Family Room on 09/28/16

Hi there friends! Hope your first fall weekend was…fall-y.  🙂

Ours was low key since the Big Sweet has been traveling for work and I was busy getting ready for an upcoming trip to NYC! YES! I am so excited to head up this week and join 80 other bloggers at the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker event. Sometimes I am still in disbelief that what started as a hobby and creative babble has become such a great opportunity for friendships, bucket list experiences and an ongoing (much needed) creative outlet. If I haven’t thanked you lately for your support- THANK YOU!

Before I head out I want to share a quick tutorial for some Pheasant Feather art that I featured on the Touch of Fall home tour last week.  To update the family room for the fall/winter months I wanted something very simple over the family room mantel.  When I saw these Pheasant Feather Shadowbox frames over at Ballard Designs in their catalog, it got me thinking…

Hey- I could do that!

So, here is my version. Simple and clean- exactly what I was looking for, and I love the bright white against the dark gray.

TOOLS & MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS DIY PHEASANT FEATHER ART:

  • Pheasant Feathers
  • Pair of Matching Frames (large enough to hold feathers)
  • White Poster Board
  • Glue Dots or Glue (I used Glue Dots because I had them on hand)

STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR THIS DIY PHEASANT FEATHER ART:

  1. First you will need some pheasant feathers. I actually had the feathers on hand but I have seen them at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s or of course Amazon.
  2. Then, find a pair of frames that will fit the feathers. I was hoping for some silver frames more like the inspiration ones from Ballards, but when I found these Ribba frames from Ikea, I realized they would be perfect.
  3. Once you have the frames and feathers, just cut white poster board down to size for your “mat”.
  4. Then use glue dots to adhere the feathers to the poster board.

That’s all! Easy and simple art for your fall home. (or really any time of year!)

If you are following along- this is Day 4 of our “31 Days of Fall in the South”– be sure to catch up with the other posts here.

Use Rub N Buff on the frames and you can have silver frames. I love this stuff for picture frames, I no longer have to worry if the finish is “right”. This stuff is so easy and quick to use.
