The countdown is ON for our spring break and I am so excited to finally be able to head down to the beach with my crew. As you know we were supposed to go down for our winter break but the flu had other plans for us. We had kept it a surprise for that week and the boys still do not know we are beach bound in a few days so I am back to my sneaky packing and scheming. It’s SO much fun having this surprise for them!
But before I head out of town I wanted to share a really simple idea with you for this month’s DIY Dollar Store Project. If you have a glue gun and any sort of vase or urn on hand- then this quick project will only set you back a buck!
A few weeks ago, I shared how I finally tackled our built ins (ahem, yes it only took 8 months) and explained my tips on how I got the balanced look I wanted. One trick is that I kept a consistent color scheme – with one of the colors being blue of course, and then also some green. As I went on the hunt, I realized I didn’t have much greenery to sprinkle in… so I decided to make my own with these DIY Moss Ball Urns.
To make these I just grabbed one of my silver vintage ice buckets and a bag Reindeer Moss from the Dollar Tree. This stuff is typically in the fake flowers and ribbons aisle and I have used it for several projects. (here and here)
Once I had my vase and the moss, I crinkled up some packing paper (thank you Amazon Prime) and made a mound in the vase as a base for the moss to be glued on.
Then I just fired up the old glue gun and went to town gluing the moss onto the paper mound. I don’t know what it is about that glue gun but it is so therapeutic sometimes!
I actually made two of these- one for each side of the bookshelves and I love the little pop of green it adds. Here it is on the left side….
And here is the one on the right side….
