Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on my bathroom reveal! It’s always fun to do these intense challenges because it really does help me stay on track and actually finish a room. I know I’m guilty of having those little loose ends in a room- curtain rods lean in a corner for months or even pictures waiting to get hung- that I scramble to finish right before guests are scheduled to arrive. But with a “deadline” it is such motivation to get it all across the finish line and it feels great to cross the room off the list.
A few weekends ago I turned another year older and wiser. And my sweet husband planned a fun getaway for us over at Reynolds Plantation. If you are not familiar with this resort, it is about 1.5 hours from Atlanta on Lake Oconee and one of the highlights among the beautiful property is a Ritz Carlton. It was fun to pamper ourselves and have a little break from the kids. We ordered room service and visited the spa. We took a 7 mile walk on the property. We sat by the pool and watched the boats. And I think I slept for 10 hours straight. Aaahhhhh.
Aside from getting lots of R&R, it was also good inspiration for getting our guest bathroom guest ready. Since I was smack dab in the middle of the guest bathroom makeover, I channeled that resort spa feeling back at home so that our guests can leave feeling a little extra pampered.
Have I mentioned that I LOVE that we have an actual guest bathroom in this house? It’s definitely such a nice treat that our guests no longer have to share a bathroom with the boys and I wanted to make it feel truly special! I thought I would share a few simple touches I added to our guest bathroom. I’m sure many of these you are already doing and I would love to know of any other things you may do that I missed!
- BATHROBE
First up, a bathrobe. Since we didn’t have a dedicated bathroom for our guests in our previous home, I always had an extra bathrobe on hand for my girl friends so they could comfortably walk down the hall after taking a shower in more than just a towel! But even with an en suite bathroom, I couldn’t resist adding a new plush white robe. Since the towels are white too, it will be easy to toss in the wash with the linens after guests and definitely worth a little extra laundry. - SCENTED SOAPS & LOTIONS
I’m such a sucker for yummy soaps and lotions and figured a great way to create a “spa-at-home” feel, I would need to kick it up a notch. I was thrilled when Thymes sent me a sample of all eleven fragrances they offer in their Thymes Beauty Bag for me to pick my favorite.
It was such a hard choice with so many wonderful scents to choose from but at the end I chose the Goldleaf Gardenia. Can we just talk about how perfect this packaging is for this room with the gold and pink?
It was a happy accident that I loved this fragrance the most and the pink and gold were on par with the colors for the room. Not only was the packaging spot on for this space, the scent is lovely and light- just a little floral, but nothing overpowering.
I’ve been kidding about how I will likely be hiding in here when I want to hide from my kids. Yes, don’t-mind-if-I-do light that candle and pretend I am at the spa instead of hearing you ask for a snack….
- EXTRA TOILETRIES
Wouldn’t you know I packed my toothpaste but forgot my toothbrush last weekend on our trip? Of course, the hotel was super accommodating and I was back in business in no time! Just like the hotel, I also like to keep extra items on hand for guests. Aside from these displayed in the apothecary jars, I have a basket in the bathroom cabinet filled with extra toothpaste, toothbrushes and a hairdryer. - LAUNDRY BASKET-
From time to time, we have more than just weekenders staying with us. Sometimes my mother in law stays for longer periods of time with us so this bathroom has affectionately been named “Mimi’s Bathroom” by Sweet B. Of course, with longer guests a laundry basket is necessary, but even someone staying for a shorter time would welcome an official spot to throw dirty clothes. I also placed a couple hotel laundry bags in the basket so guests could easily carry their dirty clothes home. And then when it’s time for them to leave they can always throw their dirty towels and robe right in the basket!
5. TOWELS
Last but not least, I refreshed all of the towels in the guest room to be matching and sparkly white. In all honesty, many of our towels were looking rough and I hadn’t even realized it! So I found a set on Amazon that seemed plush but not too big so that I could easily throw them in with the linens when guests leave. This was such an easy update and now I am on towel patrol around the house to see what else needs to be replaced. (dish towels I am coming for ya!)
6. FRESH FLOWERS
This one almost goes without saying but I sure do love these bright white hydrangeas and I will take any excuse to throw some in my shopping cart!
Now off to text my out of town friends to line up some guests! YAY!
xoxo-
