Wow are we REALLY already half way through January? I guess time flies when you are having fun… and it also apparently flies when you are hunkered down “doom scrolling” about the current affairs in the world. While it’s been another emotional week, I am really trying to stay off the news and social media and focus on the positives that surround me. A big one is my Mom! Wishing her (and her twin!) a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY today! Grab your coffee and meet me on the porch it’s time for our Front Porch Coffee Talk .
TWINKIE’S BIRTHDAYS!
Today we are celebrating this lovely pair of ladies (My Mom and Her Twin) from afar. (thankyouverymuchcovid) They are truly the best moms, aunts, sisters and friends – and as you can see they are a force to be reckoned with! I don’t know where they get all of their energy but they can run circles around me and are always in the background cleaning, cooking and just getting stuff done. Lovers of travel, volunteering, morning walks on the beach and their husbands- I aspire to have your energy and zest for life in all of my decades.
Speaking of decades- here is a walk through yours… and all of your hair styles! 🙂
Happy birthday Mom!
And Happy Birthday KK! Having a mom that is an identical twin is like getting a bonus mom, and I am so thankful for my Mom’s Twinkie!
We are blessed.
KITCHEN GOALS
Southern Living posted this picture the other day on Instagram and I have found myself going back to study it several times since then. From the rug to the topiaries to a lamp in the corner?!?! So much inspiration!
MY JANUARY PROJECT
Last week I shared the before of a closet that was long overdue on a clean out. I figured if I put it out there I would be more accountable to actually deal.
Well, it worked! Last weekend I took every. single. thing. out of the closet and started over with intention. I donated tons, tossed a bunch of “someday projects” that have been sitting around way too long and sorted to my heart’s content. I will share the full before and after but for now I will leave you with this- my pile of pillows to be sorted!
I think it’s safe to say I have a pillow problem.
MEAL PLANNING INSPIRATION
Nothing is safe as I purge purge purge- not even my old recipe notebooks and cookbooks. I feel like I am in a huge rut when it comes to meal planning so I decided to start fresh in my recipe notebook. After years of adding recipes that I never even used or liked, it was time to give my cookbooks some attention. I yanked out any page that I no longer thought I would use and am donating a pile of cookbooks that do not inspire me. I was able to get rid of an entire notebook! I also reached out to family members for the family faves that I realized I didn’t have a copy of. (such as my Mother in Law’s Corn Stuffing and my Mom’s Carrot Cake) I am still working on getting this organized but was able to make lots of progress this week!
Speaking of meal planning, I always keep a couple bags of these two items from Trader Joe’s in my freezer. So perfect to add as part of lots of easy weeknight meals.
GAME ROOM
My sweet neighbor is remodeling and gave us a pair of fun plush swivel chairs. Turns out they are exactly what we didn’t know we needed for the game room! Lots of changes happening in here and I am so happy to make this room even more functional for our family. The boys have grown up so much in the last three years since we first moved in- so it’s nice to reevaluate the purpose of this space and make it more of a true game room as they get older. Stay tuned for the updates.

I’m very interested in how you are going to store your pillows. I, too, have a thing for pillows. I’ve seriously considered using the shrinkable space bags.
I will definitely be sharing, it’s nothing earth shattering but it brings me so much joy seeing them organized instead of strewn about everywhere. 🙂
