{One Room Challenge} Dining Room | Week 2 Update

in Easy DIY, Home Tour on 04/11/18

Hi friends! Happy hump day. It was a rough couple days getting back in the swing of things after spring break, and my mommy heart is starting to freak out that we are only 7 weeks away from summer. Didn’t I JUST send my child off on the first day of kindergarten? Time. Is. Flying.

Today I wanted to pop in with a quick update on the dining room. It is week 2 of the 6 week room challenge and if you missed last week, I am tackling our dining room.

And YAY the big pieces of furniture are in! Obviously, since this is a dining room the table and chairs are the stars of the room and I am happy that all of these pieces are here to begin building the room around.

We had our heart set on a round dining table since the room is fairly square shaped. Our good friends have a round dining table and I have always loved dinner parties there because everyone is facing everyone and it really makes for a fun setting. We were thrilled to be able to pull one off in this room!

After several weeks of deliberating, we went with this one from Restoration Hardware in 72″.

Next up, the chairs. First- can we please just stop and talk about how expensive chairs can be? OK- now that we are all shaking our heads in agreement, let’s also acknowledge that this is a dining room. Where people eat. Real people. And even real little people ages 6 and 3.

We went back and forth on what chairs to get for this room but when we found these, we decided to go for it. The price was great and while they are still light in color, I scotch guarded them to help ward off stains. Will they have stains, probably. Will I stress about them? Nope.

Honestly, I am struggling a little with the leg colors now that they are in the room and I am considering staining them a darker color. It all has to do with whether a rug lands in here or not… and the jury is still out on all of it!

OK, next up- the console and mirror. These were both leftovers from our last house and now they have found a home in here. I am contemplating paint colors for both now so we shall see where they land!

Last but not least this week, I am making baby step progress on the color of the walls. I am looking for that perfect “greige”  (beige + gray) color and having serious commitment issues. Here are some options with the wallpaper on the ceiling- I’d love to hear your favorites if you have one!

Alright, that is all for this week. I better get moving on crossing off more of these items on the to-do list! Only 4 more weeks to pull this room together.

Looking great so far and love the table. Yes, it is amazing how costly chairs are and many of us want practical and pretty.

    Can’t wait to see more

Repose Gray is THE BEST!!! Have used it so much and it’s just the perfect neutral!! Love the things you’ve picked out so far and can’t wait to see the finished product!

My daughter has been using worldly gray in her home. Not cream, not bluish, just a very good neutral color. So far in her dining room, breakfast nook and hall going upstairs. It is very soft and does not seem to take on other tones. Just thought you would like to know.

Pretty much every time I settle on a color direction, my mom nicely suggests I think outside that box and I HATE it, so I can’t believe I’m about to do it to you, a perfect stranger with great style. But… have you considered a paint color family that would provide more pop and contrast? There’s a bunch of beige/gray/brown going on with the beautiful table and chairs and cool papered ceiling and when I saw the current picture, maybe I’m crazy but I thought about a mid-toned blue with some gray in it. Just a thought — good luck choosing!

YESS! All of this, yes. In my original inspiration board I had Sea Salt SW color laid in which is a blue gray green non color ha ha. I have flipped back and forth a million times! Why is this so hard?!?!!? Thanks for your suggestion!

Thank you! Yes, I don’t know what it is about the chair legs, but I’m hoping that when the walls are painted maybe they will work better.

I love the table and it is the perfect size for a great dinner with friends or family! I’m thinking right now with the little’s…maybe a rug is not a good idea! But then again, you don’t eat in there that often, right? You’ve got some great ideas, can’t wait to see what you come up with!~

How in the world do you get something done in 6 weeks? It is amazing that you can pull it together that fast. I love the grey/beige combination. I am thinking a warmer beige to offset the cool grey. LOL I actually have color swatches for a bedroom that are these colors! But then again the blue is great too!

Beautiful start to your ORC. A possible paint choice is a Behr Marquee brand in Gravelstone mixed at 75% in their matte finish. It is a beautiful neutral “greige” and the matte finish would be lovely for your dining room. Love the dining chairs!
