Week 5 One Room Challenge Updates

in Easy DIY on 05/02/18

Hello hello! Welcome to WEEK 5 of the One Room Challenge. If you think you missed a 4 week update from me… nope you didn’t- I actually didn’t post one! So today I am sharing the final update before the big reveal next week.

So, why didn’t I post a WEEK 4 update you may be asking yourself?

Because of this…

Originally, we wanted to find some large original art to put up here in the dining room. But art is SUCH a commitment and we really hadn’t found anything we loved since we moved in. Plan B was a big canvas that the boys painted. But as much as I loved their cute work, the vibe just wasn’t working for me. So I got a wild idea before the week 4 update to find a Plan C! A few years ago I went behind the scenes to the Southern Living Idea House in Birmingham and this wall of birds had always stuck in my head. The original room was designed by Mark Sikes and I just love how it makes a statement but is neutral. So I decided to create one myself!

I mean, really guys, nothing like a major curve ball smack dab in the middle of the challenge to turn all of my plans upside down.

It started with a massive hunt for frames (thank you spray paint and Goodwill!) and then printing all of these bird images. Oh yeah, and then I had to actually hang the frames. It was kind of a to-do, and let’s just say I am SO glad to have it over! All in, it was under $100 to pull off so that part is awesome. (and if and when we ever find the perfect art I won’t be sad about removing it) I will write a tutorial once the room is done with how I pulled it together. It is definitely a statement!

OK, let’s see what other updates I can share… oooh – these benches. They had been floating around the house since we moved in without a true landing spot. And since I think every room needs a little animal print, this is now the perfect home for them. I had been DYING to use this antelope fabric in stone color somewhere in the house so was thrilled to have a spot for it.

The final update for the week is that I did decide to add a rug. When my friend posted this great sisal rug on the local exchange, I figured I would grab it and find a spot for it somewhere in the house. I decided to try it in here and loved the way it looked- so it is here to stay!

I cannot believe I have a week to finish pulling this together. I’ll be back next week with the final reveal! Fingers crossed the last pieces come together. I am still spinning on a few things so should be interesting to see where it all lands.

I love it Heather! And you’re right, you didn’t have to invest a ton for big impact and you can always change it down the road.
