How to Make Easy Chinoiserie Blue and White Easter Eggs

in Easy DIY, Holiday Crafts, Spring on 02/28/19

Hi friends! Thanks to everyone for your sweet emails about yesterday’s blue and white bunny artwork post. I guess I am not the only one with spring fever! Today I am back with another blue and white Easter project- this time it is blue and white Easter Eggs. I love the Chinoiserie look and was on a mission to find a way to create some Chinoiserie Easter eggs of my own- and here is how I did it using items from the Dollar Tree.

(Psssst- it’s pronounced shen-waz-er-ie)

Easy Chinoiserie Blue and White Easter Eggs

SUPPLIES

  • Plastic Easter Eggs
  • Blue and White Toile Napkins
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam Paint Brush (I buy these in bulk and keep them in stock around here at all times!)

DIRECTIONS

  1. To make these chinoiserie blue and white Easter eggs, you will first need to cut your blue and white napkin into narrow strips- around a half inch wide by 3 inches long.  For my napkin, I used a Spode Toile guest napkin that I actually had in my stash.

2. Once you have your strips cut, take your foam brush and apply Mod Podge to the plastic Easter egg. Then apply the napkin strip to the egg. Repeat the process until the egg is covered.
**One thing to note- you may want to paint your eggs white first if you have white in your napkin because I did notice in some areas that the colored egg came through the white of the napkin. When this happened, I just applied an additional napkin strip to cover the plastic egg.

3. One the napkin strips are dry, you will want to do another layer of Mod Podge over the eggs to ensure that all the pieces are flat.

Blue White Easter Eggs

If you look close, you can definitely tell that these are not perfect. There are ridges and seams and nothing matches up. But I am certain that there is no craft or Mod Podge police that will come over and bust you! 🙂 These still look pretty sitting in a glass bowl for spring. And there is just something so satisfying about crafting a project!

Blue White Easter Eggs

Especially when it only costs a couple things you grab at the Dollar Tree, or probably can even be done using items you already have around the house! Here you can see how I styled them on our ottoman. (Which of course, I promptly removed from the ottoman after I took these photos because my boys love playing “THE FLOOR IS LAVA”. If you are not familiar with this lovely little game, it involves them standing on the furniture and avoiding the carpet to move around the room. Normally I would NOT APPROVE but since it has been raining so much you do what you have to do to get the wiggles out!!)

Blue White Easter Eggs

I hope you are inspired to make some fun chinoiserie inspired blue and white Easter eggs yourself!

Ah yes.. the floor is lava! Let’s hope the sun comes out soon! 😉 I’m a big fan of Chinoserie – these eggs are the sweetest – and am forever grateful that you shared the correct pronunciation!

Use foam eggs and separate layers if napkin, using the top printed layer. I’ve made them with various print napkins. Can sprinkle with white glitter too.

Love these eggs, especially because they are plastic and unbreakable, LOL. Thanks for the tutorial and I can’t wait to try.
