Five Minute Hostess Tip: How to Get Free Fresh “Flowers” (No Matter What)

in Gather, Happy Homemaker, Lifestyle on 09/14/15

Hi there! Hope you had a great weekend!

Atlanta finally got the memo that fall is around the corner and we enjoyed some blue skies and cooler temps this weekend. It was a busy and fun weekend too! After several years of praying for and crying with, we finally got to celebrate my bestie’s baby shower. Oh, and Sweet P had his first soccer game so that was quite a joy! Nothing like a herd of 4 year old’s running around to make you smile.

Today I am back with week two of the Back to Basics series. As a reminder, this is a 4 week series where we are sharing some of our super simple tips to help simplify your life.

Today mine is so easy, I hate to even call it a tip.

Think of it more as as a mantra. A promise. A pledge. Ready?

“I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FRESH FLOWERS
WHEN HOSTING.”

Yes.

Say it with me y’all.

“I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FRESH FLOWERS WHEN HOSTING.”

But wait! I can’t buy fresh flowers- it’s No Spendtember and it’s naptime and I haven’t showered. Sound familiar?

So what’s a girl to do?

Today my tip is going to tell you how you can always have fresh “flowers” when hosting… no matter what. For FREE!

Yard clippings.

Really, all you have to do is grab your scissors and walk outside. I GUARANTEE you will find something pretty and free.

Here you can see a simple vase with Trader Joe’s sunflowers. Sure. Anyone can do that. And yes, it’s happy and lovely.  But I also am showing a completely free version with Gardenia clippings. It’s also happy and lovely.

Um, does anything smell more divine than Gardenia clippings?

Wouldn’t that be adorable on the bathroom sink. Or on the bar. Or on a tray on the counter. Or in the foyer.
Free.
Here I did some boxwood hedges and a magnolia tree clipping.
Free.
Free.
Here are some pretty magnolia leaves and buds from the magnolia flower.
Free.
Free.
Here you can see some red berries and holly I clipped last Christmas.
Free.
Free.
(whoa, did anyone else get a flutter of excitement for the holidays when looking at this!?!?) 🙂
Obviously, this is pretty easy in the spring and summer but you have to get a little more creative in the fall and winter. But after a couple years of doing this you will know what blooms when around your yard. (or when your neighbors plants bloom, just saying.) OK. So are you ready to make the pledge for free fresh “flowers” always? I’d love to hear it! Or what plants and flowers you like to use if you are already doing this?
If you liked this simple tip be sure to check out what the other gals are up to today!

One year I decorated my entire front porch for Christmas with clippings I found while out walking the dog. Sadly, he peed on them first. But it looked gorgeous! Love the tips!
