{Her} Master Closet Update (part 2)

in Lifestyle on 02/06/15

Happy Friday! And YAY! You came back even after I showed you my closet yesterday. Today I am here with the afters.

It is absolutely not perfect, not staged, not perfectly folded. This is real. And most importantly, it is WORKING.

It’s amazing what a couple evenings of work can do. As soon as I accepted this closet could not hold everything I wanted it to, it was so much easier to figure out how to make it work. I decided that it would hold my shoes, boots, sweaters, tees, puffy vests and a handful of shirts I have in my daily rotation.

Everything else got the boot! Now remember, I do have an Ikea wardrobe in our master that holds the majority of my blazers, dress pants, blouses and skirts. The issue I was having was mostly for the folded clothes and shoes.

I used some store credit I had at Stein-Mart for the cute ikat boxes on the top shelf. But it still would have cost less than $20, and what a difference matching baskets make versus the hodgepodge that was there before.

Puffy vests are in full rotation these days. When warmer weather arrives, I will use this space to hang my shorts and summer blouses.
The brown nightstand is housing scarves and the tall shelf is stacked with sweaters and tees. The basket is holding slippers and my Uggs, shoes I can just throw on.

I don’t know why I didn’t do this 5 years ago, but now my hats are hanging above the door. Not only are they out of the way, they are super easy to grab and go and no longer getting smashed daily.

The shelf and nightstand are still going to get a fresh coat of paint but you can see the pink walls and rug here. That blue and white chevron basket is where I am putting delicates for washing.

I stuck some command hooks on the tall shelf to hang my purses. I love using the vertical space for extra storage!

The jewelry shutter got HUNG. Just having it off the ground makes it so much more user friendly. Again, why did this take me five years?
To see how I made the shutter, click here.

To keep my boots uprights, I rolled up magazines and inserted them.

The storage boxes hold ballet flats, small purses and summer scarves.

And just for fun, here was the before:
And here is the after:

Phew! I still want to paint the random furniture and hang a cute light but I’d say we made some progress!

Happy weekend sunshines!

Heather

You did a great job maximizing the space! I have two smaller shutters that have been laying around. Might have to turn them into jewelry holders.

That jewelry shutter is a great idea, Heather! I pinned it for a future project. And good job organizing everything. 🙂
