It’s been a weird December with few parties and engagements, so it definitely felt like the perfect year to try a new tradition. This past weekend we went to a local Christmas Tree Farm to chop down a Christmas Tree and it was the perfect new “socially distant” family Christmas activity to try! If you follow me on Instagram then you know the Christmas Tree Farm visit was extra special because we were loaned a 2021 Tahoe Premier for the weekend. It sure was nice to load everyone up in a brand new SUV and head out of town on an adventure.
Since it was later in the holiday season and it has been an “unprecedented” year for people cutting down Christmas trees (is anyone else OVER THAT WORD?!), when it came time to find a local Christmas Tree Farm that still had any trees there were very few left! I called around to probably 5 or 6 in North Georgia but finally when I called Berry’s Tree Farm they said “oh we have plenty and will even have plenty after Christmas!”

Berry’s Tree Farm still had plenty to choose from and the best part is that it was only about 40 minutes from our house.
This was the first time any of us had ever chopped down our own tree so we were not sure what to expect. Upon driving up, they handed us a (sanitized) saw and gave us a brochure that identified the colored flags marking each type of tree throughout the over 200 acres of property. We were told beforehand that there were no typical Fraser Fir options so we decided to drive through the entire farm to first get a feeling for the different types of trees available. We stopped a few different places to check them all out. Each tree has a tag with it’s price and is identified by a colored flag- there were cedars, cypress and different pines.
A Few Tips:
- This was the real deal and we had to trek through the tall grass so I was very happy I wore boots!
- We expected the actual chopping to be much harder than it was. Turns out it was a pretty easy task (although admittedly our tree was not that big).
- The trees are NOT typical Christmas trees- but that is actually what kind of made it more fun and unique!
- It seemed the earlier in the day the better as it was definitely getting busy by the time we left.
- Bring a few singles to tip the fellas that shake the tree out, bail it and tie it to the roof.
- Make sure you call or check out your local Christmas Tree farm website before you go- as places shut down when their inventory is gone.
After seeing all of our options- we landed on this cypress tree and boys had it chopped down in just a few minutes!
Let me pause here and mention this 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier again! It was SUCH a treat to have this beautiful car on loan for the weekend and the perfect car to bring our tree home in! We especially loved the interior cargo space, the extra large sunroof and the third row. Oh, and I was IN LOVE with the quality of the back up camera- this technology really made me feel so safe the entire time I was driving it. I can honestly understand why the Tahoe has held the title of best-selling full-size SUV in the U.S. for the last 19 years!

Since we already had a tree in our family room with our family ornaments, we all collectively decided to place our newly chopped down tree on the back porch for the season. We made a huge fire and it was the perfect Sunday evening enjoying the lights and the fruits of our labor!
