{Patriotic Summer Challenge} Neutral Nautical Pallet Flag

in create, Easy DIY, Holiday Crafts, holidays, Lifestyle on 06/11/14

Thanks for all of your sweet comments and well wishes for the upcoming arrival of our sweet boy! We are counting down the days for his arrival (two weeks from today!).  I have lots of fun projects planned for the next couple of weeks- there are giveaways, blog hops, home tours and the June Summer Style Series where we will celebrate Jacqueline Kennedy.

Phew! So much for resting up before he arrives! 🙂

Today, I am so excited to be participating in the Patriotic Summer Challenge. I have joined up with more than 30 awesome bloggers to tackle the challenge of creating a patriotic project or recipe…

And here is the kicker- none of these projects will use the traditional red, white and blue color scheme!

How fun is that?! For the next four weeks, all 30+ projects will be shared on some of the most inspiring blogs around. I can’t wait to see all of the projects and hope YOU will find some inspiration as well.  PLUS- we are giving away a $310 Target gift card.  God Bless the USA… and TARGET!

I have to be honest, when I was asked to participate, I hesitated. I mean, I LOVE red, white and blue and all things patriotic!

This sounded…
hard.

But I am always up for a fun challenge! So I thought about it for a few weeks and finally decided that a Neutral Nautical Pallet Flag would be a fun project to tackle!

A few months back, my dad gave me this petite pallet knowing I would come up with something to use it for.  I rummaged through our supplies and found some leftover gray stain from the pergola in the courtyard and some leftover white paint, but watered it down to do more of a white-wash treatment to the pallet.

Once again, I hit up my stash of oysters from the beach last year (pretty sure my family still thinks I am loco for filling buckets with oyster shells) and grabbed a starfish from the pile o’ goods I have laying around for just this sort of craft! 🙂

Using all materials I had on hand, I now have a Neutral Nautical Pallet American Flag that I will be hanging on the front porch to welcome guests this summer.

Love Pallets?
Love the Coast?
Check out another coastal pallet project I did here.

Patriotic Summer Blog Hop

AND- here is the best part- to celebrate summer and the 4th of July holiday, we are giving you more than just creative inspiration. We want to give one lucky reader a $310 Target Gift Card! The giveaway will end on July 4, 2014 at 11:59 pm.

Girl! You amaze me with another awesome use of oyster shells! Love the flag!

We are headed to the coast next week and my goal is to gather up as any shells as I can get! 😉

Ha Katie, if I had a dollar for every craft fail I have encountered, I would have a heyday in Hobby Lobby! Can't wait to see what your project is!

Thanks Katie! I too have a thing for nautical decor! Being in land-locked Atlanta, I enjoy bringing home a part of the beach with me!

This is absolutely gorgeous! And as someone who is obsessed with both pallets and all things nautical, I'm drooling over here. Watch out, if it goes missing, you just might know who took it off your hands! Lol.

Hmmm… I better bring it indoors when you are in Atlanta for Haven! I hear there is a run on pallet nabbers in the neighborhood! 🙂

I just found your blog and love your living room! (btw I live in GA too) … Do you mind sharing what color your living room walls are? I tried to go back and read some of the replies to old posts but couldn't find a mention of the paint color. Thanks!!!!

Hi Terry and fellow Georgian! Yes, my living room walls are Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. We actually painted our entire home this color (after testing at least 25 shades of gray!!) and I absolutely love it. Grays can be so tricky- good luck!

I just love all these ideas for the 4th of July, but I could see them up for a long period of time. I really like the pallet ones but my heart loves Lady Liberty I hope I do one of them, I just got out of the hospital. But this is Important to All Americans.
