Forever In Our Hearts || Millie Update

in Lifestyle on 03/04/22

This week our sweet Millie Girl would have been 9 months old. But she is now in doggy heaven.  The boys have been so brave but as you can imagine we are all devastated and heartbroken. She was so loved and we will miss her.

I shared last week that Millie was having a rough go (update here), but we were optimistic that after the blood transfusion she would respond to medication and it was just an autoimmune challenge we were going to have to work through.  Unfortunately, she took another downward spiral this week and it was determined that she had lymphoma. Our trusted vet told us that anything we did, such as another blood transfusion or chemo, would just be a band-aid.

Once we knew it was time, I got busy calling around and was able to find an at-home mobile vet to come and help us say goodbye that evening. Obviously, no one wants this time to ever come with their pup, but if it does for you and you want your kids to be involved- I would highly recommend going this route. We all gathered on the back porch when it was time and all of us stayed with her the entire time. It was peaceful and really gave us closure for this unexpected tragedy.

We welcomed Millie into our home and hearts last September and even though her life was short, she will always remain a special part of our family. I am certain doggy heaven is now better with her in it, and that our old Bella Girl was waiting for her on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

The outpouring of love and support from our friends has been very comforting. From cookie deliveries, to the Dog Heaven book dropped in our mailbox the night it happened, to flowers, and Edible Arrangement and even a chips and salsa care package- it has all been so thoughtful! When this engraved rock showed up from our supper club, I honestly thought my heart would burst.

Forever in our hearts.

xoxo-

Heather

It’s so heart rendering when we must let our pets go. I hope you and your boys find peace knowing that you had the best mercy for your Millie. Life’s lessons can be hard on kids. Hugs to them.
