Udder Madness Chair Makeover

in Lifestyle on 03/20/15

Woo-to-the-hoo it’s Friday y’all. As painful as the daylight savings time change was to muddle through, I am absolutely loving these longer days. That mixed with the warmer temps has kept us outside all week. I almost forgot what it felt like to play outside and it has me super excited for our spring and summer adventures.

OK, so I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Paint is a powerful thing. Today I am here to show you a before and after that involves paint and some pretty fun fabric.

I have to admit, I am sort of in LOVE with this project! You will either love it or think I have lost my mind, and that’s cool. Because I know faux cow print is not for everyone.

Actually, I didn’t even realize it was for me. Until now.

But it is.

In fact, I’m wondering where it has been all my life! Doesn’t it look moo-velous?

Alright, let’s take it from the top. These chairs. Bless their hearts.

They were NASTY. Seriously gross.

But when there’s a will, there’s a way, and I knew these could have a new life.

I first unscrewed the seats from the chair base. This is super easy and there are usually just four screws holding them in place under the cushion. Then I gave the wooden chair base a light sanding and wiped them clean.

Once they were cleaned up, they were ready for some spray paint. I used my go-to Rustoleum Heirloom White. It took 3 light coats (one can) to get full coverage and get all of the nooks and crannies.

Now, here comes the fun part – recovering the seats. I had tons of fabric in my stash, but I knew I wanted something totally different. Inspiration struck when I saw Julie’s chairs over at Less Than Perfect Life of Bliss.

Moo-la-la!

So, I went in search of some fun faux cow fabric and found this Udder Madness Cow fabric. It doesn’t take much to cover the seats, so pretty inexpensive. To cover, all you need is a staple gun. I just cut the fabric to size and stapled away.

Goodbye old fabric. (I was going to remove the old fabric, but then decided since the cow fabric was thick enough, I would just cover right over it….) Looks like this is actually it’s third life based on the original citrus yellow fabric. 🙂

Once the seats are covered, you just screw them back in place.

I absolutely UDDERLY love the way these turned out. These chairs are my first step to whipping our dining room table situation into shape.

I can’t promise how quickly the udder chairs and table will come along, but… baby steps, right?

For very little moo-la, it’s great to have two new chairs.

Bonus- I love having some animal print in the dining area now.  BOOM!

So what do you think? Too much for you?
Or do you think it’s moo-la-lovely?

10 points for correctly counting all of the cow references in this post, it was hard to resist! 🙂 I do have to admit that all I can think of is Will Ferrell playing the cowbell as I write this … I have a fever and the only prescription is more Cow(bell).

Happy Happy Weekend!!!! Make it FUN!

xoxo,
Heather

I love them. They are not over the top at all, but they really pop as accents in the room. Very nice!

Heather, These chairs are totally fantastic! I know it's hard to find a good faux animal print but you nailed it. I can't wait to see how the rest of your dining room comes together. Hope you're having an awesome week, CoCo

Heather, you are too funny, I was giggling all through this post! I actually didn't think of myself as a cow-hide person either but I think you just sold me! Love the small dose of the print on the chairs, they look so great!!
