Picture this:
The dreaded morning wake-up call goes off.
For you, it’s probably your alarm clock buzzing in your ear. In my case, it’s most likely one of the Sweets waking me up waaaaay too early for my liking.
You stumble out of bed.
Only to walk into this bathroom:
Seriously? This is as boring as hitting the snooze button.
Instead of doing something about this boring bathroom, I ignore the dullness, grab the kiddos, make myself some coffee and get on with my day.
And this daily morning routine continues for approximately 480 days.
YES. 480 mornings I have walked into this boring bathroom. Which is why I am so happy to say we now have a stylish space, thanks to three easy steps and a stop at Big Lots last week.
Last week I was determined to do something about this boring bathroom and I had a few extra minutes while running errands so I stopped into Big Lots. I was so happy I could scoop everything I needed for this mini makeover in one stop, and today I am going to share the three easy steps I used to give our bathroom a new look.
Step 1. A New Rug
My trusty sidekick and I went down the rug aisle and after reviewing all of our options he agreed that this navy trellis rug deserved two thumbs up.
I love the bold pattern for the floor. Particularly because there are no curtains in this bathroom, so this is a great way to get some pattern and warmth in the room.
Step 2: Add some art to the walls
With the rug picked out as our starting point, off we went to check out some options for the walls. After laying out several options in the aisle, I went with a combo of frames and a mirror.
I fell in love with some big off-white frames that I could customize with art of my own. These two white frames were perfect for slipping in some free printable navy coral art. The navy frame now houses a word that has special meaning to me -“Sanssouci”- which means “No Worry” and is a great reminder first thing in the morning.
And, of course, no room in my house would be complete without a decorative mirror. This metallic quatrefoil is a great way to break up the square frames.
Step 3. Something pretty for the counter
I grabbed a fun metallic canister for the counter and paired it with a blue and white vase I already had. This is perfect for holding little toiletries I brought home from our 10 year anniversary trip to the Ritz. Because if you can’t live at the Ritz, might as well pretend you are there every once in awhile.
When I went to check out, the cashier agreed I had found some great things! I was very happy with the value I found at Big Lots. Not only did I find all of the home decor items I would need to spruce up the space, I found an over-sized bag of Pirate Booty. This mama is happy and the Sweets are happy. I’d say we scored all around. 🙂
I am so happy with the way it turned out and wonder why I waited 480 days to do these simple updates. At least now between the crying baby wake up call and the first cup of coffee I can enjoy this serene space…
even if it’s just for a second….
because Sweet P just dropped his bowl of cereal on the floor and the dog is licking Sweet B’s face.
If you are in my boat and need to spruce up a bathroom, Big Lots is a great choice. Of course, styles and assortments vary by store. Happy shopping!

I need to do this with our "master" bath (it's off our bedroom but it's so tiny!). It's such a blank canvas. I did add some artwork but it still feels blah. Soon our main floor bath will receive some love after its big renovation (we took it down to the studs to summer). It's still missing some crucial pieces then I'll decorate. I can't wait!
So fun! I can't wait to hear more about the renovation!
Will you come do my bathroom? Please? This looks absolutely fantastic, you really have an eye for design! #client
Aw! Thanks Summer!
Looks beautiful! I'm wanting to change my bath decor and I think I just about have everything together.
